NEW YORK (AP) -- They say the third time is the charm, and it certainly was last night for the Pittsburgh men's basketball team.
After two regular-season losses to Marquette, the 13th-ranked Panthers beat 18th-ranked Marquette 89-79 last night in quarterfinals of the Big East tournament in New York City.
Aaron Gray scored 22 points to lead Pittsburgh, which faces Louisville in semifinals tonight.
Dan Fitzgerald matched his career high with 20 points to lead Marquette.
He also had 20 in the Golden Eagles' 76-67 win over St. John's in the opening round of the tournament Tuesday night.
Wesley Matthews had 19 points and Dominic James added 16 for the Golden Eagles.
