Determined Jenkins Proving Worth Again to Brewers

PHOENIX (AP) -- Brewers manager Ned Yost says right fielder Geoff Jenkins' work on his swing in the offseason is paying off.

When the streaky hitter went home in the offseason to work on flaws, Jenkins decided that instead of trying to hit home runs, he needed to drive the ball and hit singles, instead.

Jenkins stops short of saying that he has something to prove, but he certainly thought he would be traded in the offseason.

He had been mired in a slump for awhile, while the team fell apart.

Jenkins says the biggest thing was working on his posture in the offseason and staying tall in his stance.

He says that now when he's making mistakes at the plate, he's not popping the ball up, but driving it into the ground, where it has a chance to get through the infield.

Jenkins is due $7 million this season, the final year of his contract with a $9 million team option for 2008.
