GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Veteran fullback William Henderson doesn’t expect to return to the Green Bay Packers next season.

Henderson issued a statement late Monday on the Web site of WBAY television in Green Bay, where he appeared as a regular guest, saying he expects the team to release him and thanking fans for their support.

"It was an honor to be associated with the Packers," Henderson said. "It is humbling to leave such a great organization, but I will always be grateful for my time in Green Bay."

Packers officials and Henderson’s agent, James Williams, did not immediately return telephone messages left by The Associated Press.

Henderson’s departure would leave Brett Favre as the only member of the 1996 Super Bowl championship team still playing for the Packers.

Henderson considered signing with the division rival Minnesota Vikings before last season, but chose to return for a 12th season in Green Bay.

He spent much of last season on the bench after Brandon Miree, signed to the Packers’ practice squad after being waived by the Denver Broncos, was promoted to the active roster in Week 4 and began taking most of the offensive snaps at fullback.
