MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Brian Butch scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead fourth-ranked Wisconsin to a 98-to-40 men's college basketball victory over Gardner-Webb at Madison tonight.
The 58-point margin of victory is a school record.
The Badgers (13-and-1) also got 13 points from Kammron Taylor, eleven from Alando Tucker, and ten from Jason Bohannon.
Wisconsin scored the game's first seven points, but Gardner-Webb pulled within 9-to-8 eight minutes into the game.
The Badgers then ripped off a 15-point spurt, part of a larger 32-to-5 run.
Before Kammron Taylor missed a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left in the half, Wisconsin had scored on 15 straight possessions.
The Badgers shot 59 percent in the first 20 minutes and matched that output in the second half.
Ricky McPhee led the Bulldogs (2-and-9) with 17 points.
The Badgers are off to their best start in 78 years.
They travel to Georgia on Sunday.
