More information is being released regarding the alleged prank gone wrong, that left five teenage boys severely burned by a firework.
According to WEAU-TV, Sparta Police Chief Mike Kass said that the boys were not playing with small fireworks, but were illegal fireworks that were fairly large in size. Police say the boys, all 17-years-old, apparently tried to throw a lit firework out of a car window, but it went off inside.
The driver did manage to drive to a nearby hospital. Four of the teens were airlifted to other hospitals. Sparta police said they don’t know how extensive the injuries are or how the boys are doing now, but Chief Kass said that the injuries appeared to be fairly severe.
Police were notified of the incident around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.
