MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A day's worth of defensive domination by Greendale evaporated in a single play in the Division Three championship in Madison today.
A dramatic fourth-down touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter gave Waupaca a 7-3 victory at Camp Randall Stadium.
Greendale controlled Waupaca's offense for three quarters, making the Panthers' 3-0 lead seem insurmountable. That's until a critical punt return gave Waupaca quarterback Aaron Jenson the chance to find Sean DeVos in the corner of the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-10 with 3:50 remaining in the game.
It was the final step in a wild run to a first-ever championship for the Comets.
