WAUSAU, WI-- A trio of Wausau West athletes are taking their talents to the collegiate level.

    Lets start with softball.

Eryn Edgerton has signed a letter of intent to play softball for Division Two Minnesota State-Mankato.

"It's starting a whole new chapter in my life," Edgerton said. "I've worked really hard up to this point and it paid off. Now I just have to keep working."

Edgerton went 11-5 in Valley Conference play last season, leading the Valley with 111 strikeouts, while posting a 2.02 ERA.

Steven Monk will wrestle at Division One North Dakota State. Monk, just a junior, went 53-6 last year, taking 3rd at state and helping to lead West to the team state championship.

"I would have never thought last year," Monk said, "that I'd be signing this early because I didn't think people were that interested in me when really it's the exact opposite."

Fellow junior Sam Umlauf had a hand as well in the Warriors' state wrestling championship. Umlauf is going way west and wrestling for Stanford. He was 46-8 as a sophomore.

"I kind of had an idea I wanted to wrestle in college," Umlauf said. "But I had no idea I'd go to Stanford. I really liked the college when I visited it, so I'm glad to have it done."
