The spokesman for the 5th Annual "Fore" A Cure golf event says they are hoping to raise $150,000 for breast cancer research and prevention.

The golf outing was held on Monday at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau. The event was created by the Fonti family and is sponsored by Furniture and Appliance Mart and the Marshfield Clinic.

Coordinator Bill Fonti says his grandmother, Catherine Fonti survived breast cancer twice before dying of Alzheimer's disease.

Fonti says proceeds go toward the Mobile Mammogram Program; two traveling units used to test women for breast cancer. And, it will also assist the Catherine Fonti Angel Fund, which helps women who might not have enough money to pay for mammograms.

"Last year, they diagnosed 16 individuals with cancer on the mobile unit. It’s about convenience and finding it early," says Fonti.

He says the mobile units travel about 50 weeks a year.

Diane Mueller battled uterine, and breast cancer and has been cancer free for five years. "Had I not been going routinely for mammograms they would not have found it," she says.

Diane and her husband Ralph, both volunteered at the golf outing and are cancer survivors.

Ralph survived prostate and bladder cancer. Diane and Ralph both believe in research and early detection.

"We need to lick this thing and every day, we are getting closer to that," says Ralph Mueller.

New this year, they are selling raffle tickets at their stores and customers have an opportunity to win a pink Frigidaire Washer and Dryer set.

Fonti says raffle tickets will only be available when the pair is at a particular store.

The dates for the laundry tour haven't been announced yet.

Fonti says they are also accepting donations at all Furniture and Appliance Mart locations.
