IOLA, WI - Former Badger and current Detroit Red WIng defenseman Brian Rafalski was lucky enough to raise Lord Stanley's cup once again for the third time this past year. Every player who's team wins the NHL title is given one day that off-season with the cup to do what he wish. Today was Rafalski's day, and he brought the cup to Iola.

Bill McDonald won a charity auction to help cover medical expenses for someone close to his family, and his prize, a half hour with Brian Rafalski and Lord Stanley's cup.

But even with the oldest, most sought-after trophy in all of sports calling central Wisconsin home today, everyone involved is glad that they are also helping a greater cause.

"The last time I did something with it myself and this time I decided to change it up a little bit and let somebody else put on the event, and I just have to show up with the cup," said a smiling Rafalski. "It's for a good benefit, for Tammy for her medical bills and I hope it helps."

"It's kind of a two-fold purpose," said auction winner Bill McDonald. "We were really glad to be able to help, in a small way help Tammy out and to have the Cup is just awesome. As you can see, it's made a lot of people pretty happy to get to see that thing in person."

"It's a great place here in the summers," said Rafalski who owns a house in the Wapaca area. "I've always enjoyed living here. It's where we enjoy spending our summers. It's always nice to come back and it's good to see so many Detroit fans here in central Wisconsin."

"Being a Red Wings' fan since little kid, I never thought I'd get to see the day where I'd see it in person or touch it or hold it," said McDonald. "When Brian gave it to me to hold it, kinda made goosebumps on my arms."
