Beaver Dam, WI - After three rounds at the State Amateur, Antigo's Kelly Kretz sat on top of the leaderboard. All three golfers in the final pairing, Kretz, Danny Zimmerman, and Ben Bendtsen III, tied at five under (-5) after eight holes on the day. It was the back nine that got the best of Kretz.

After taking a drop earlier on the 14th hole, Kretz would still have a chance to save par. His putt lips out, and that's what type of day it was for Kelly. On 15, more of the same. He'd have another par opportunity but once again it's just of the mark. Kretz would walk away with back-to-back bogeys. Those two bogeys would drop him four strokes back of the leader at that point.

The leader going into the final hole was U-W's Danny Zimmerman. He'd take a one stroke lead into 18, but would need to save par to force a playoff. He does, and we have extra golf to play to find a winner.

On the second playoff hole Ben Bendtsen III would drain a birdie putt and he's your 2008 Wisconsin State Amateur Tournament champion. Kretz would finish third.
