MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Just two days after saying he didn't deserve the closer's role for the Brewers, Eric Gagne was back in action Monday night, but he entered the game in the seventh inning instead of the ninth.

Manager Ned Yost sent Gagne in with the Brewers leading the Cardinals 8-1, and he got through the seventh without giving up a run. Then he stayed in for the eighth and had some trouble but gave up just one run.
