Wausau's Piette helps win Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Ryan Newman has won the 50th running of the Daytona 500, giving team owner Roger Penske his first victory in the Great American Race.

Wausau's Joe Piette is one of the rear tire changers for Newman's Alltel team.

Newman, driving the Number-12 Dodge, beat out Kurt Busch for the checkered flag. Tony Stewart was third.

The first half of the race was virtually caution-free with the first yellow coming out on the 80th lap. There were a total of seven cautions with six coming in the final 49 laps.

Kyle Busch was fourth and Reed Sorenson came in fifth.
