MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The new head of the state Department of Natural Resources says he would like to have changes to how the state addresses chronic wasting disease in place by the 2008 hunting season.
Matt Frank says he wants to wait and see what an advisory group recommends later this year.
Frank spoke at a confirmation hearing before the Senate's Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
Frank says that while eradication of the disease is a laudable goal, it may not be possible.
He says containment is something the state needs to focus on.
He says the department needs to work closely with hunters and the Legislature to ensure support for its actions.
