MILWAUKEE (AP) -- It was a golden opportunity for the Milwaukee Brewers, but it didn't happen.
After the Chicago Cubs were beaten by the Florida Marlins, the Brewers had the chance to cut the first-place Cubs' lead in the Central Division race to one game.
All they had to do was beat the St. Louis Cardinals, but the Cardinals pulled away to a 7-3 win at Miller Park last night.
Now Milwaukee trails by two games with only four to play.
Ryan Braun drove in all three Milwaukee runs last night.
He says that with time running out, the Brewers are in a must-win situation every day, and even that won't be enough if the Cubs win more than two of their final four games.
