Starting the final round of the 2010 NewsChannel 7 Golf Classic, Derek Hilmershausen found himself in the Championship Flight but three strokes off the lead. By the end of the day it was Hilmershausen who outlasted the field and walked away with the title.

But it didn't come easy. The Greenwood Hills golfer finished five groups ahead of the leaders and when he entered the clubhouse at an even par 142 for the tournament, he had to wait to see if it would hold up.

Turned out that it didn't. Alex Molski out of SentryWorld birdied the final hole to force a playoff, the first playoff at the Classic since 1996 and just the sixth in tournament history.

In the playoff on the par three 17th, both gentlemen shanked their tee shots. Hilmershausen flew his right of the green into the rough. Molski went the other way, dropping his tee shot into the front, left-side bunker. Both golfers were forced to chip back onto the green. Hilmershausen shot first but his chip ran past the pin and finally settled on the fringe about 10 feet out. Molski's wedge out of the bunker rolled safely onto the green but still sat about eight feet from the hole. The difference in the tournament came down to the putts. Hilmershausen, from the fringe, read his putt perfectly and sank it to save par while Molski's attempt at par came to rest just inches in front of the hole.

It's the first NewsChannel 7 Golf Classic title for the 28-year old Hilmershausen.
