Only one player was able to break par in the first round of the NewsChannel 7 Senior Men's Classic.
Curt Thompson shot a 2-under 69 on Thursday. That's good enough for a 4-shot lead. But right on his heels is Joel Rhyner from Trapp River who shot a 73. Rhyner was runner-up in 2008.
Among a group that is 5-shots back are Rick Miller, Jim Rebne and 2009 champion Stephen Rollins. Miller, Bulls Eye CC, shot a disappointing 40 on his front 9 but then followed it up with a blistering 34 on the back. All 3 gentlemen sit 5-shots back with a 74.
Play resumes Friday morning at 7:15am. Thompson, Rollins and Rhyner tee off in the final group at 9:25.
