Kids from across the country get the chance to forget their battling cancer, and instead, have a bit of fun in the snow. It's an event kids from all over the united states look forward to every year.
Today former pro-football player and Northcentral Wisconsin native Jerry Wunsch put on the annual Circle of Friends in Wausau. Every year volunteers from across the country converge on Wausau to give children with a cancer a chance to be a kid and play in the snow.
The program gives the children an opportunity to ride snowmobiles and going downhill skiing, things that they would not normally be able to enjoy. The program also gets the kids away from the hospitals and their parents for a while allowing them to make connections with other cancer patients.
Wunsch chose Wausau because he remembered the love that he felt here when he was growing up. He says that the community of Wausau is so loving to the children that it's the best environment for them.
What may be more important than the people that support them is what the children actually take out of it. Most of the kids said that they will always remember the friends and memomries that they made this past week, and others just said that being able to be a kids was the best thing of all.
