This time of year, it is extremely important to keep your walkways clear for mail carriers.

That is because people are sending more large parcels so carriers have to walk to the door of a home.

If the sidewalk and or driveway has snow or ice, that can cause them serious injuries.

Lori Rogney from the Wausau Post Office said, "If there is a buildup of ice, have it sanded on the sidewalks if it can't be removed. It's their livlihood as far as if they fall down and injure their ancle and their knee or hip, it could be a career ending injury for them."

Last year, a carrier fell on icy steps, hurting their shoulder. That put the worker on limited duty for the busy mailing season.

Wausau has an rule that if your walks are not safe, the carriers will not deliver your mail.
