Granite Peak Takes Advantage of Warm Weather to Prep for Winter

Despite un-seasonably warm temperatures in the past week, some people are already thinking winter. As we enjoy our last glimpse of summer, crews at Granite Peak Ski Area are preparing for what they expect to be a good season.

Staff say the warm weather has actually helped them. They've had extra time to get work done, like prepping the chairlifts and other equipment, but they can't wait for chilly temps.

"These temps are fine. It's helping us get outdoor projects done, but we do know its coming and we've been talking to a lot of people who watch the Farmer's Almanac and we're hearing consistent stories that its going to be a very snowy winter," says Vicki Baumann, Operations Manager at Granite Peak.

Baumann says as soon as the ground freezes and it stays 28 degrees or colder, they can start making snow.

Staff hopes enough of that ideal weather comes around in time for their anticipated opening day, on November 19th.
