Receiving letters and care packages is a boost for troops serving overseas. But if you plan to send something in time for Christmas this year, time is running short.
"We're seeing quite an influx of packages already," said Lori Rogney, Tomahawk's acting postmaster.
Many are hoping to get their cards and packages to loved ones by Christmas, but some of those loved ones are in a war zone.
Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers, a U.S. marine in Wausau, says it's good to know there are people out there thinking of the military.
"We don't always see that and getting letters from people back in Wisconsin, these men and women appreciate it," he said.
If you plan on sending a package overseas, there's no time like the present.
"If you're mailing packages internationally we would like you to have that in the mail between December 10th and December 13th at the very latest," Rogney said.
She says if you're willing to pay a bit more, letters and packages can be sent by express mail no later than Dec. 18th.
And because post offices are so busy this time of year, she recommends trying to beat the afternoon crowd by running your errands early in the day.
The deadline for domestic packages sent by priority mail is Dec. 20th.
