A Birnamwood man is awfully glad he participated in this year's sturgeon spearing season.

Angelo Firkus was one of the lucky few to spear a sturgeon more than 100 pounds.

He caught the behemoth Saturday on Lake Winnebago.

"This is the fish of a lifetime," he said.

The fish, which is estimated to be 100 years old, is nearly 6 feet long and weighs 131 lbs.

Firkus says it was a struggle, but thankfully the water, which had a depth of 14 feet, was crystal clear.

After he's done showing off his prize, Firkus will smoke and grill the giant.

According to the DNR, 850 sturgeons have been harvested this season...the largest weighing in at a whopping 212 lbs.
