As family and friends come into town for the holidays, you may be wondering how to keep them entertained.

Luckily several outdoor attractions are coming to life this weekend throughout Marathon County.

With a vertical drop of more than 100 terrifying feet, Sylvan Hill is the place for winter adventure.

"It looks a little intimidating for the first time. I tell everyone that you go down once, and the kids might be nervous, but after the first time I have trouble getting people to leave!" said Nick Pavlovich, the facility's manager.

The attraction opened Friday night, after a little help from mother nature.

"We hope its busy because its fun to hear laughing, its fun to hear screaming, its fun to hear people having a good time," Pavlovich said.

This year riders must be at least 3'5'' tall to ride, those too small are at a greater risk of getting hurt.

"The problem with it is sometimes people can't make it out of the tube and that's where accidents come into play," he said.

Tickets are $7.50 for adults 14 and older, and $5 for those younger.

Along with tubing, several outdoor ice skating rinks have come to life.

The City of Wausau opened three today at Grant School, John Marshall School and the downtown 400 block.

Hours are 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The Village of Weston opened three rinks at Weston Elementary, Kennedy Park and Machmueller Park.

The Weston and Kennedy rinks have warming houses with an attendant from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

"All the rinks are ready to go. Obviously we have the main rink and full size hockey rink as well," said Brad Mroczenski, who works for the Village's parks department.

Workers have been flooding the rinks twice a day.

"We actually had a zamboni donated to us this summer so I was able to get it out yesterday for the first time. So I was able to put this rink in pretty good shape," he said, referring to Kennedy Park.
