GLIDDEN, Wis. (AP) -- A year from now, two northwoods school districts could be one.
The Park Falls and Glidden school boards voted yesterday to consolidate their districts as of next July 1st.
Park Falls Superintendent Mark Luoma says it could be the first of many consolidations of districts trying to cut costs in the face of funding shortages and enrollment declines.
Under the order of school district reorganization approved Tuesday, the new district will be named, at least temporarily, the Park Falls Glidden School District.
Glidden will house the district's only middle school, and Park Falls will house the district's sole high school for the first five years.
Park Falls school board member Wayne Herbst voted against the consolidation and is circulating a petition. He wants the pubic to have a say in a referendum vote.
