Wisconsin residents are telling local students the tales of their past so they can be compiled for future generations.

The oral history program at D.C. Everest High School in Weston is publishing more history books, told directly from those who lived it.

The program has already published more than a dozen books that range from the 1920s to Vietnam.

Students are currently working on a third volume for World War II, Native Americans in Wisconsin and Desert Storm.

The program offers students an experience not easily forgotten.

"When we did our 20's book the actual guy that I interviewed for that, he passed away shortly after my interview, so it was just really rewarding to hand his family a piece of his history so they won't forget," one student said.

Many students have been involved with the program for all four years of high school and other students new to the program say they’re eager to return.
