WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- Carroll College in Waukesha has a new name effective Tuesday.

The college becomes Carroll University, a name trustees hope will help with student recruitment and better reflect its growing academic programs.

The school began exploring the name change in September 2007. It sent nearly 112,000 messages about the name study to nearly 27,000 constituents, including alumni, students and community leaders.

The university was founded in 1846, making it the state's oldest higher education institution.

It has about 3,300 students and 120 full-time faculty members.
