After a day spent digging through dumpsters, students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse say half of what they found could have actually been recycled.

Monday's dig was to commemorate Earth Week.

The dumpster came from one of the dorms and was loaded with paper, plastic and aluminum.

In prior years, the amount of recyclables found in the trash had been as high as 80 percent.
