Tomah Police say State Representative Jeff Wood has been arrested for his second OWI in less than a month.

According to a report, police were notifed of an erratic driver in the city just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They pulled him over and identifed him as Rep. Wood.

The independent from Bloomer was given a field sobriety test and taken into custody for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicant or Other Drug and Bailjumping.

The charges have been sent to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.

The embattled state lawmaker was arrested for OWI near Wausau in September and for OWI and possession of marijuana in December. He has not being convicted in either of those cases.

Rep. Wood had enrolled himself in a rehab program following the arrest near Wausau.

Here's a statement released by the State Assembly Speaker:

Wisconsin State Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan (D-Janesville) released this statement, following the arrest of Rep. Jeff Wood (I-Bloomer):

“If the allegations are true, Rep. Jeff Wood is facing his fifth offense of driving under the influence. With this charge, Rep. Wood has brought shame not only on himself, but on the Wisconsin State Assembly.

“I am deeply disappointed in Rep. Wood. Rep. Wood told me that he had admitted himself in an in-patient treatment program for his struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, and as a colleague, I wanted to support him in that process.

“However, with this arrest, it seems clear that Rep. Wood has not been solely focused on recovery and has again endangered himself and the public. Now, we must take a very hard look at his case, and determine if he is truly able to serve the people of his district. Rep. Wood must take responsibility and be held accountable for his actions.”
