MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Ron Kind says he is considering running for governor.

The La Crosse Democrat says he has been contacted by people from around the state urging him to run now that Gov. Jim Doyle will not. He says he's considering entering the race and will make a decision in coming weeks.

State Sen. Jon Erpenbach says he is also considering running for the Democratic nomination.

An aide says Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton intends to run. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk are among the other candidates expected to consider the race.

Two prominent Republicans are already running, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann.
