The head of the Wausau Community Development Department is retiring.

NewsChannel 7 has obtained a copy of a letter written from Mike Morrissey to Mayor Jim Tipple, saying he will retire June 2.

Morrissey was recently put on administrative leave after a former employee alleged he created a hostile work environment.

She also claimed she was not given the same opportunity to explain the use of a city credit card as he was, and filed a sex discrimination complaint with the state.

The former employee, Wendy Jasurda, filed the complaint after she was fired for alleged misuse of the card. She faces criminal charges.

Morrissey returned to work after an investigation by an attorney hired by the city cleared him of any wrongdoing. The discrimination case before the state is still pending.

Wausau City Council President Bill Forrest tells NewsChannel 7 the retirement has nothing to do with the allegations, and that Morrissey deserves credit for doing a fine job for the city for 19-years.
