MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Jim Doyle has replaced Wisconsin's longtime railroad commissioner with a state senator.
Roger Breske, an Eland Democrat, will take over as commissioner on June 4. He'll serve until March 2011.
Breske replaces Rodney Kreunen, who has served as commissioner since 1996.
Doyle spokesman Lee Sensenbrenner says Kreunen has decided to retire. He would not elaborate, other than to say Breske has experience with railroads and the time was right to make the switch.
The railroad commissioner is responsible for enforcing railroad safety regulations and assessing crossing safety.
