MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The union representing more than 23,000 state employees says it has reached a tentative two-year labor contract with the state.
No details of the deal were released on Tuesday pending approval by members of the AFSCME union. Votes were to be counted on May 12.
AFSCME says in a statement that the deal covers five units of the Wisconsin State Employees Union. State employees are currently working under terms of a contract that expired on July 1.
The union's executive director Marty Biel says the new contract does a good job of maintaining the economic dignity of state workers.
Office of State Employment Relations Director Jennifer Donnelly says the contract meets the state's essential needs.
