WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Clarence Marschall is 87 and survived World War II. And he's finally a high school graduate.

Marschall received his diploma Tuesday with 292 other Wausau East High School seniors as a way to honor him for his work in the classroom and overseas in the military.

Marschall dropped out of Wausau High School in the 1930s after finishing 10th grade. He lived on his own making paper products until the Army drafted him in 1942.

He landed on the beaches of Normandy 10 days after D-Day and survived the Battle of the Bulge, a German counteroffensive.

Every year, Marschall visits Wausau area schools to talk about his war experiences.

He says he was stunned and speechless when his family told him that he would get his high school diploma during Wausau East's 126th commencement ceremony.
