GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- An Appleton-based unit of the Wisconsin National Guard is planning a series of meetings in preparation for its possible deployment overseas.

The gatherings are intended to make the transition easier for the soldiers and their employers.

The 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry is part of the Wisconsin National Guard's 32nd Infantry Brigade. It has been on alert for the past few months that 3,400 soldiers might be deployed. But there's still been no official order.

The 127th has units in Green Bay, Clintonville, Waupun, Ripon, Fond du Lac and Marinette as well as Appleton.

Major John Oakley says a Wednesday meeting in Green Bay is one of seven set in northeastern Wisconsin during the next three weeks.
