Specialist Branden Macha of Pittsville served with the Army in 2004 and 2005, earning a Purple Heart in the process.

Macha attends UW-Stevens Point, but has been alerted to head back to the Middle East in 2009.

His stepfather, Steven Hiles, is a Vietnam War veteran, serving with the 101st Airborne Division in 1969 and 1970.
