87-Year-Old Gets High School Degree

Last Updated: 7:13 AM 06/04/09 - 87-year old WWII veteran Clarence Marschall received his diploma Tuesday with 292 other Wausau East High School seniors as a way to honor him for his work in the classroom and overseas in the military. He dropped out of high school in the 1930's.

Our Local Heroes: Veteran from Shawano Remembers WWII on VE Day

Last Updated: 9:42 AM 05/11/09 - Virgil Smith of Shawano is a member of the Greatest Generation, the one that sacrificed so much to save the world from tyranny in WWII. Virgil was part of the invasion at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D Day and fought in the Battle of Bulge. On VE Day he remembers the war. (Full Story)
Eighty More Wisconsin Soldiers to Leave for Iraq

WI National Guard Troops Will Help Run Iraqi Prisons

Last Updated: 10:04 AM 04/27/09 - Many of the 3,200 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers beginning to arrive in Iraq will help run the two biggest prison camps. The troops will be based in heavily Sunni regions and guarding camps that are supposed to rehabilitate and release low-risk prisoners, most of them Sunni. (Full Story)
Fort McCoy in Line for Federal Stimulus Money
Last Updated: 10:22 AM 03/23/09 - Federal stimulus money will pay for $30 million in renovations at Fort McCoy near Sparta. The money will be used for renovating the barracks, road reconstruction and water main maintenance. (Full Story)
Former "Our Local Hero" Awarded Air Force's Second Highest Honor

Last Updated: 4:31 PM 03/04/09 - Staff Sergeant Zachary Rhyner of Medford will be awarded the Air Force Cross Tuesday. The military says he was injured by a bullet during the attack in the Afghan mountains in April, but still managed to radio for air support to prevent his team from being overrun. (Full Story)
