Donald A. Halverson, age 84, Stevens Point, formerly of Elderon, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point under the care of Ministry Home Care- Hospice Services. He was born on December 31, 1924 in the township of Franzen, the son of the late Thomas and Effie (Mortson) Halverson. On October 5, 1946 he was united in marriage to Edna O. “Petey” Baumgardt in Elderon. She survives. Donald served in the United States Marine Corps and served honorably in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was proud to serve his country. He was a former dairy farmer, cattle buyer, electrician and a retired Union Bricklayer Local 9 Fox River Valley which he belonged to for over 40 years. Donald was also a lifetime member of the Elderon VFW Post #8068 and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Stevens Point. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and picking blackberries. IIn addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Norma Halverson, Stevens Point; one brother, Marlyn (Edna L.) Halverson, Wittenberg; one niece, LaVonne “Vonnie” Johnson; one nephew, Randall Halverson, a great niece, great nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 6, 2009 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (600 Wilshire Blvd., Stevens Point). The Rev. Howard Hintzman will officiate. A private inurnment will take place in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, town of Elderon. A memorial will be established for the St. Paul’s Children’s Library.
