Phyllis M. Schwede, 64, Wausau, entered into rest at her home on Saturday, June 20, 2009 with her family by her side.
Phyllis was born July 7, 1944 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Stevens Point, daughter of the late Sigmond and Tillie (Delikowski) Podgorski in Stevens Point. Phyllis was untied in marriage to Billie Schwede Sr. on Feb. 23, 1963 at Mission Evangelical Bible Church, in the Town of Texas.
Phyllis was raised on her parent’s farm in the Town of Texas where she gained an appreciation for country life. She loved attending Jefferson School, a neighborhood one room school until 8th grade and was a member of Texas Triggers 4-H Club. As a classmate of 1962 she attended Wausau High School. After high school she moved to Milwaukee where she worked for Cutler Hammer until her marriage. While raising a family she worked at Marathon Battery, Prange’s, Super 29 Foods, JC Pennys and later Maple Ridge Farm.
She was a member of Mission Evangelical Bible Church and Ladies Aide, 50/50 Homemakers, volunteer for Camp Blessing, volunteer member of Town of Texas Fire Department where she served as a First Responder and Secretary.
Phyllis owned Whitetail Express; working for various residential and highway construction contractors. She felt a sense of accomplishment for completing the Transportation Alliance for New Solutions (Trans) Program.
As a mother, Phyllis enjoyed contributing to her children and grandchildren’s 4-H projects. She enjoyed exhibiting her own projects at the Lincoln County & Wisconsin Valley Fairs.
Phyllis love the word of God, flower and vegetable gardening, arts, traveling, being creative, quilting and dreamed of learning to drive a horse. She was an excellent cook who taught and inspired her children to do the same. Phyllis was generous in nature, fond of shopping for her children and doted on her grandchildren. Her home always had a fresh look. Having all her children and grandchildren together for any occasion brought her a lot of joy. Her children will always appreciate their childhood thanks to her love and devotion. She will be dearly missed and cherished. Memories will not be forgotten by her husband Bill, family, and faithful dog Pepper.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; Children and Grandchildren, Walter (Gail) Schwede, Alexander and Aaron of Manderson, WY, Bill Jr. (Jennifer) Schwede, Madeline and McKenzie, Bruce Schwede of Wausau, Joanie (Walter) Carston, Stacy, Vincent and Elisabeth, of Spring Valley, and Vincent (Rebecca) Schwede, Ella of Wausau; siblings, Nancy Betker, Marvin (Phyllis) Podgorski Sr, Marcella (Delmar) Jaeger, Stanley (Sheri) Podgorski, Sigmund Jr. (Nancy) Podgorski, Glenn Podgorski.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Gary, and brother-in-law Leo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Mission Evangelical Church, T12780 N Blessing Rd. Wausau, town of Texas. Elder Dick Ostwald will officiate. Burial will be in Mission Evangelical Cemetery, Town of Texas. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at the church and again from 9:30 am until the time of services also at the church. Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Mission Evangelical Bible Church, Camp Blessing, and or the Town of Texas Fire Dept.
