Robert Sanders passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday morning, June 14, 2009. Mr. Sanders was born October 22, 1939 in Wausau, Wisconsin to the late Robert E. and Elsie Bentz Sanders. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Peace UCC in Schofield. His passion was restoring cars, in particular, Studebakers. He was a member of the Wausau Car Club and the Studebaker Car Club. He also was an avid Packer fan and known to his grandchildren, Haley and Zach, as Papa Fix-it. After moving to Cookeville, he attended the Algood United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Sanders, brother, James Sanders, and sister, Mary Salzman. Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Carole Scott Sanders (whom he married March 24, 1962 in Chicago, IL); daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Dave Dietz of Apple Valley, MN; two grandchildren, Haley Dietz and Zach Dietz; brother, Ralph (Cecelia) Sanders of Schofield, WI; and two sisters, Shirley (Jack) Kutil of Wausau, WI, and Sue (Robert) Knapp of Schofield, WI. Funeral service will be held Friday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, 1530 Grand Ave. Schofield. Rev. Larry Treece is officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. Mr. Sanders’ family requests memorials be made to Algood United Methodist Church 135 West Main Street Algood, TN 38506 or Peace United Church of Christ 1524 Grand Avenue Schofield, WI 54476.
