Mona J. Schaar, age 76, Wittenberg, died Monday, June 15, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at her home with her family at her side. She was born on June 15, 1933 in New London, the daughter of the late Elmer and Florence (Bricko) Godin. On October 17, 1953, Mona was united in marriage to James D. Schaar in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1999. Mona was a foster grandparent for the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District for over 10 years. She was a member of the Holy Family-St. William Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women as well as the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502 Ladies Auxiliary. Mona enjoyed her card club, crocheting, going to her cottage up north, an occasional trip to the casino, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson. Survivors include four daughters; Kathy Schaar, Debby Schaar, both of Neenah, Shelly (Rod) Karcz and Julie Resch, all of Birnamwood; five grandchildren, Tanya (special friend Tom) Resch, Matt (special friend Misty) Karcz, Krystal (special friend Rick) Resch, Adam (special friend Kaylin) Karcz and Brett (special friend Melissa) Resch; one great-grandson, Jayden Karsch; two brothers, Bill (Alice) Godin, Greenville and Jim (DeAnna) Godin, Elderon, two sisters, Shirley (Marv) Moderson, Neenah and Sandy (Don) Linke, Eland. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other special kids and grandkids. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael and one brother, Robert Godin. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Holy Family-St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg. Fr. John Girotti will officiate. Interment will be in St. Philomena Catholic Cemetery, town of Norrie. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4pm until 8pm at Schmidt Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Thursday from 10am until the time of services at the church. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:45pm on Thursday at the funeral home. The family guestbook is available at schmidtschulta.com.
