| LaVerne H. Fuller, age 78, a Mattoon area resident, died on Friday, June 12, 2009 under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice at his home. He was born on October 9, 1930 in Boltonville, WI, the son of the late Harold and Viola (St. Louis) Fuller. On June 22, 1957, LaVerne was united in marriage to Florence Franzen at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Phlox. She survives. LaVerne was a United States Army Veteran serving as a combat engineer in the Korean War. He was a member of the John-Owen Post #287 American Legion, Mattoon. LaVerne worked as an operating engineer for Gabes Construction, Sheboygan for over 20 years. In 1971 he started Fuller Sales and Service and continued to operate it until his retirement in 2005. LaVerne enjoyed the outdoors, planting trees every spring, and operated Fuller Trees. He also produced Grade A Maple Syrup and raised beef cattle for many years. LaVerne’s pride and joy was his 1946 Willys Army Jeep. He enjoyed going to Auctions and snowmobiling, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife; Florence, five sons; Tim (Joyce) Fuller, Steve (Paula) Fuller, Bob (Chris) Fuller, Howie (Barb) Fuller, all of Birnamwood and Roger (Angie) Fuller, Ventura, CA, two daughters, Carmin (Ron) Grall, Birnamwood and Marsha (Gordy) Salzwedel of Marshfield, 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two brothers; Donald (Ann) Fuller, Mattoon and Ray Fuller, Eagle River, one sister; Stella Fandrey, Eland and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by one sister-in-law; Delores Fuller and one brother-in-law; Arnold Fandrey. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Parish, Phlox. Fr. David Kiefer and Deacon Tom Hartman will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, town of Hutchins, Shawano County with military rites conducted by the John-Owen Post #287 American Legion. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church.
