"Share Your Holidays" is NewsChannel 7's annual food drive and fundraiser.
Every year for a few weeks in December, we collect non perishable food and money. It's gets donated to the Neighbor's Place food pantry and Salvation Army in Wausau.
Since we started 8 years ago, we've donated more than $130,000 dollars. In 2009, we set the all time record of donations of $41,600. We've also collected more tons of nonperishable food than we can count.
This year, Share Your Holidays is growing! We're adding an extra week beginning on Black Friday, November 26. The drive comes to a close on Friday, December 17, although the bank account will stay open until the end of the year.
You can donate money and food at any River Valley Bank branch and at the NewsChannel 7 studios at 1114 Grand Avenue on Wausau. The bank, or original sponsor of the drive, is matching all donations up to $5000.
The Dudley Foundation and Halverson Family are showing their generosity once again. The Foundation is matching grants up to $10,000 and the Halverson Family up to $5000. So your money donations will be matched up to $20,000!
You can also donate food at North Central Wisconsin Shopko stores, North Central Wisconsin Perkins Restaurants and Wausau area Wagner Shell Stations.
On December 3, NewsChannel 7 personalities will be walking in the Wausau Holiday Parade, taking your donations for Share Your Holidays.
A week later on December 10 from 5am to 9am, those same TV personalities will be on hand for the annual "Celebrity Gas Pump for Share Your Holidays" at the Wagner Shell Station on Schofield Avenue in Weston. For a donation of food or money, they'll pump your gas and give you a gift certificate for cup of coffee and a free car wash. You don't have to use the car wash that day; it's traditionally the coldest day of the December!
December 17, the final day of Share Your Holiday's gets started on a warmer note. During Sunrise 7 from 4:30am to 7am NewsChannel 7 meteorologist Chad Franzen will be standing outside the studios, pouring hot cups of Biggby Coffee for anyone who stops by and makes a donation.
That afternoon, our friends from Wausau Peterbilt will be taking all the food donated to the Neighbor's Place and Salvation Army. They'll be using the big semi that will sit in front of our studios during Share Your Holidays, reminding you to give.
And during NewsChannel 7 at 5 on Friday, we'll present the check fattened up by your generosity to The Neighbors Place and Salvation Army.
Thanks for all of your help for Share Your Holidays over the years! We'd love nothing more than to say the need is no longer there, but unfortunately, it still is.
