It's that time of year when cowboys and cowgirls alike slap on their boots and put on their game faces. Wisconsin River Pro Rodeo is in town and saddling up for a weekend of tough competition and rowdy festivities.
Starting Friday, rodeo fans from all over central Wisconsin will be flocking to Merrill to participate in a 5k run and to witness some of the nation's most acclaimed rodeo ropers and riders compete for those ever-so-prized belt buckles.
Barrel racing, bronco and bull riding, and steer wrestling are just a few of the events you can expect to see, and what would a rodeo be without the witty banter between the clown and announcer?
Lincoln County Rodeo Association President Bryan Block says it was rated the best rodeo in the Great Lakes area due in large to the people behind the rodeo who have dedicated so much work to the not-for-profit event.
Vice President Pete Annis agrees. He says they've been planning the event since last year and they've managed to round up some of the finest pro athletes.
Rodeo Queen Katrina Brickner admitted it's a bitter sweet weekend for her. Her reign will be coming to an end at this rodeo where she'll crown the next set of royalty. She says she's become addicted to the lifestyle because these rodeos double as a place to get rowdy with your friends, but also serve as a clean and fun family outing.
The rodeo will be held in Merrill this Friday through Sunday at the Lincoln County Fair Grounds.
