DODGEVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Energy Corp. is buying a wind turbine development from Florida's NextEra Energy Resources Inc. for $27 million.
The 20-turbine Montfort Energy Center near the southern Wisconsin community of Dodgeville was opened in 2001 and generates about 30 megawatts of electricity. That's enough power for about 9,000 homes. The energy will be sold to Wisconsin Power & Light of Madison and We Energies of Milwaukee.
Under state law, We Energies must generate about 8 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2015.
