A 22-year-old Mosinee woman will spend eight years in prison for her role in overdose death of man last summer.
In April, Brittanie Robbins pleaded no contest to three charges of manufacturing/delivering heroin and no contest to first degree reckless homicide in the death of 26-year-old Justin Selves.
Four others were also arrested last August following Selves' death. The Marathon County Special Investigations unit had been gathering information on the five co-defendants for several months including several undercover drug buys. But when Selves died of an overdose the investigation intensified. Investigators say Melonie Brown, Kevin Mason, David Purnell, Tyshun Meeks and Robbins ran a heroin ring in the area and sold Selves the drug.
During a plea deal in February, Brown was sentenced to three years in prison for possession of THC- her second offense, and maintaining a drug trafficking house.
Mason faces 11 charges including five counts of manufacturing delivering heroin. Mason’s trial is scheduled to begin in August.
Purnell faced five drug charges; three include manufacturing heroin and cocaine. All of those charged were dismissed in October.
Meeks faces ten charges, six of which include manufacturing or delivering cocaine and heroin. He’ll face a jury in December.
According to court documents, the defendants had knowledge of Selves' death and continued to sell heroin. One of the defendants admitted to authorities that the death was actually good for sales, because customers knew the product was strong.
