UPDATE: Hendler Sentenced to 6 Months in Dog Theft Case

A 29-year-old Wausau man convicted of stealing a dog from an adoption shelter will spend six months in jail.

Jonathon Hendler appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court Monday for a plea deal. He pleaded no contest to theft and bail jumping. A separate unrelated retail theft charged was dismissed.

According to an employee at New Life Pet Adoption Center in Marathon, Diamond, a four-year-old Pit Bull, went missing on December 29. Police found Diamond at a home in Weston and brought her back to the adoption center on January 2. An employee tells NewsChannel 7 the dog was taken by someone who wanted to volunteer there.

Judge Vincent Howard ruled that Hendler may apply for Huber Privileges.
