YMCA Boot Camp Instructor Vickie Christianson says one way to attain your ambitious fitness goals is to take your long-term objective and break that down into several short-term goals. For example, if you have a 50 pound weight loss goal, give yourself about 6 months to attain that by shedding 1 or 2 pounds a week, and then 5 or 6 pounds a month.
Using a chart to keep a visual reminder is also a helpful tip to progress in your daily, weekly, and even monthly workout routines.
Christianson recommends "speed skaters" as a way to crank your heart rate up within just minutes, and there are several steps you can interchange to alternate between intensity levels. Here's how it's done: pick a sidewalk square at the park, in front of your house, or anywhere else that's suitable for the exercise. Next, jump step onto the outer perimeters of the block, left to right, either making slight bends as you go or lowering your hands to touch down on the sides.
