A Legacy Lives On: Baer's Run For Hospice

In 2004, a son lost his mother to Leukemia. Down and confused as to how to cope with the devastation, he searched for an outlet. He calls it selfish, but most people consider Baer's Run for Hospice a charitable event which that son organizes every year.

Three years after his mother's passing, in 2007 Marty Ferris started Arts Live, now called Baer's Run, an event to live on the legacy and joyful life of his mother who passed away in Wausau's Hospice House. Ferris now works for the house and says what was once a therapeutic endeavor has become the joy of his life, to carry on the legacy of his mother.

Kathleen Gaynor Ferris loved the arts and was committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals in her community, and that's why her son says he makes the effort to recreate this event each year.

Baer's Run for Hospice is this Saturday, May 12 in Weston. Mayor Jim Tipple will be kicking off the event with the honorary hospice family at 9:30 a.m. when the race starts. Following the 5 and 10k's, there will be family fun to take part in. Music, food, raffles, and carnival festivities will be at the event with their proceeds going to various groups such as the Creation of Kathleen Gaynor Ferris Endowment Fund, Wausau's Hospice House, Compassionate Friends Grief Support Group, etc.

For more information about the race please visit the event's web site at www.baersrunforhospice.com.
