The Robert W. Monk Gardens in Wausau strive to not only bring enjoyment to the community, but also environmental education.

The gardens were incorporated in August of 2004 and encompass nearly 21 acres. Since then, the Robert W. Monk Gardens has been working towards developing the articles of incorporation, setting up the board of directors and committees, as well as gathering volunteers.

The mission of the Monk Gardens is educational. They want to teach people to enjoy the outdoor world and the value of plants.

Through an urban forestry grant provided by the Department of Natural Resources, the gardens are going to be putting on a series of educational classes on various topics.

The class topics will be "good bugs, bad bugs", "invasive species", "storm water management", and "planting trees".
