Remember to Donate Venison to the Food Pantry

With the 9 day gun-deer hunt quickly approaching, it's important to remember that local food pantries take venison donations too. Tom Rau with the Neighbors' Place joined us Thursday morning on Sunrise 7 to talk about the "Hunters Against Hunger" program.

He says donating is really easy, all you have to do is take the deer to a local meat processing facility, tell them you want to donate your venison, and then the meat processor will call the food pantry. It's that easy! Rau says they see hundreds of families walk through the doors of the Neighbors' Place each week - and a donation of venison would mean a lot to them.

If you don't deer hunt, you can still donate other food items. He says just think about what you like to eat and also keep in mind that In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, they're looking for turkeys. Then around Christmas, they'll be in need of hams. Just drop your donation off at the Neighbors' Place on Scott Street. .
