From Betty's Ice House to the Grand Opera to the Central Hotel, tales of Wausau's biggest and most destructive fires have been told over and over again.

On May 19th, The Marathon County Historical Society is bringing those stories to life.

They are doing it through the Walking Fire Tour, which will take to you the sites of 11 fires in the span of 11 blocks in downtown Wausau.

You'll see where the fires happened, and hear about those fateful days from storytellers dressed in period costume, pretending they are the people affected by the fires so many years ago.

Some of the fires were caused by things like lightning strikes, while other were much more scandalous. Some even involved murder and attempted cover-ups.
